Effective March 1, 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released their updated recommendations for respiratory viruses including COVID-19, flu, and RSV. As part of the CDC guidance, they provide recommendations on prevention steps and strategies including practicing good hygiene by covering coughs and sneezes, washing and sanitizing hands frequently, and sanitizing surfaces. The new guidance recommends that people who get sick with a respiratory virus stay home and away from others. Guidance suggests that people can return to normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, symptoms are improving overall and fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medication.
It is encouraged that after returning to normal activities additional preventions are taken for the next 5 days to slow down the spread of illness, such as taking more steps for cleaner air, enhanced hygiene practices, wearing a well-fitting mask, and keeping a distance from others that may be at risk.
